Dr Sacha Kepreotis

BSc MBBS MPH FRACP FCSANZ

Principal, CARDIA Heart Specialists
Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist
Staff Specialist - St George Public Hospital

Dr Sacha Victor Kepreotis is an Australian board-certified Interventional and General Cardiologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of cardiovascular disease.

After completing his specialist cardiology training in Sydney, Dr Kepreotis undertook advanced training in percutaneous coronary intervention at St George Hospital, developing expertise in coronary angioplasty and stent implantation. He was subsequently selected for the highly competitive ANZET-UK Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Leeds General Infirmary in the United Kingdom.

During this prestigious fellowship, Dr Kepreotis completed a high volume of advanced subspecialty training in coronary artery intervention, gaining extensive experience across both routine and complex procedures. His expertise includes complex and high-risk indicated percutaneous coronary intervention, the treatment of chronic total occlusions and the use of state-of-the-art intravascular imaging to help guide treatment and optimise patient outcomes.

Alongside his clinical and procedural work, Dr Kepreotis has maintained a longstanding commitment to medical research, public health and education. He holds a Masters of Public Health and completed a Cardiovascular Research Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. His clinical and scientific research has contributed to numerous publications, including pioneering research into the potential use of gene therapy in the treatment of heart failure.

Throughout his career, Dr Kepreotis has worked alongside internationally recognised clinicians and researchers and has presented his work at leading international conferences, including the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions and EuroPCR. He received the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Trainee Research Prize for Excellence in Adult Medicine and is a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, where he contributes to the education of future medical professionals.

After many years working across hospitals, research institutions and established cardiology practices in Australia and internationally, Dr Kepreotis wanted to create a practice that reflected what he believes cardiac care should truly feel like. CARDIA was born from his vision for a more personal and considered model of specialist care - one that combines contemporary cardiology and advanced clinical expertise with warmth, continuity and genuine human connection.

He wanted to create an environment where patients would never feel like a number or a collection of test results; where there would be time to listen carefully, explain things clearly and understand the wider circumstances affecting each person’s health.

For many people, visiting a cardiologist can feel confronting. Symptoms may be frightening, medical terminology can be confusing and uncertainty about the heart can affect an entire family. CARDIA was created to make that experience feel calmer, clearer and more reassuring, providing sophisticated cardiac care within a welcoming and thoughtfully designed setting.

The name Cardia comes from the Greek word kardiá, meaning “heart.” It reflects both Dr Kepreotis’ Greek heritage and the central purpose of the practice: to care for people with expertise, compassion and humanity.

As both a general and interventional cardiologist, Dr Kepreotis provides comprehensive care across a broad range of cardiovascular concerns - from preventative measures, investigation of new symptoms and assessment of cardiac risk to the treatment and ongoing management of complex heart disease.

His approach extends beyond treating an isolated condition. He considers each patient’s symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, family history and individual risk factors, with a strong emphasis on prevention and long-term wellbeing. He takes the time to explain diagnoses, results and treatment options in clear, straightforward language so that patients and their families feel informed, reassured and actively involved in their care.

A proud husband and father, Dr Kepreotis understands the importance of family and the trust involved in caring for someone’s health. He considers it a privilege to support patients and their loved ones through diagnosis, treatment and recovery, while helping them protect their heart health well into the future.

Dr Kepreotis provides consultations in both English and Greek.

Professor Ravinay Bhindi

MBBS MSc (Oxon) PhD FRACP FCSANZ

Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist
Director of Cardiology and Staff Specialist - Royal North Shore Hospital

Professor Ravinay Bhindi is a world renowned Interventional Cardiologist with particular expertise in complex coronary intervention and structural heart disease, including minimally invasive heart-valve therapies.

He completed both his medical degree and PhD at the University of Sydney before undertaking advanced training in interventional cardiology and a postdoctoral fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital and University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Professor Bhindi is Head of Cardiology at Royal North Shore Hospital and leads the Structural Heart Disease program across Royal North Shore and North Shore Private Hospitals. In these roles, he is closely involved in the assessment and treatment of patients with complex coronary artery and heart-valve conditions, as well as the development of contemporary approaches to interventional cardiac care.

His areas of expertise include coronary angiography and stent implantation, complex percutaneous coronary intervention and structural heart procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve implantation, commonly known as TAVI as well as mitral valve interventions and other structural heart procedures. These advanced procedures allow selected heart conditions to be treated using minimally invasive catheter-based techniques, often providing an alternative to conventional open-heart surgery.

Alongside his clinical work, Professor Bhindi has maintained a strong commitment to cardiovascular research, innovation and medical education. He leads active clinical research programs and is very widely published in prominent peer-reviewed medical journals. His research spans coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, heart-valve intervention and the ongoing development of safer, more effective models of cardiovascular care.

Professor Bhindi has also led and contributed to significant clinical trials and registries. His work reflects a strong interest in translating high-quality research into meaningful improvements in everyday clinical practice and patient outcomes.

As a Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney, he plays an important role in the education, training and mentorship of medical students, cardiology trainees and emerging cardiovascular researchers. He is recognised not only for his clinical and procedural experience, but also for his contribution to the development of the next generation of specialists in the field.

At CARDIA, Professor Bhindi brings extensive experience in general, interventional and structural cardiology. His involvement allows patients to access considered specialist assessment and, where required, guidance regarding advanced coronary or heart-valve treatment.

He understands that complex cardiac conditions can create considerable uncertainty for patients and their families. His approach is grounded in careful assessment, evidence-based medicine and clear communication, helping each patient understand their condition and the treatment options available to them.

Professor Bhindi works collaboratively with patients, referring doctors and other specialists to ensure that care is thoughtfully coordinated and tailored to the individual. His depth of expertise is complemented by CARDIA’s commitment to providing personal, compassionate and highly considered cardiovascular care to the local community.

Dr Jason Harmer

BSc (Hons-1) MBBS PhD FRACP FCSANZ

Consultant General and Non-Interventional Cardiologist

Dr Jason Harmer is a highly experienced General Cardiologist with expertise in a broad range of cardiac conditions.
His experience and great attention to detail supports his strong interest and skill in the diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular diseases and, importantly, risk factor modification and disease prevention.

He holds a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours, a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, and a PhD in cardiovascular medicine. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and is affiliated with the University of Sydney and Cardiology Services within the North Shore Health Precinct, encompassing Royal North Shore Hospital and North Shore Private Hospital. Dr Harmer is also a regular visiting Cardiologist at Royal Darwin Hospital and Darwin Private Hospital, in the Northern Territory.

Dr Harmer provides comprehensive cardiac assessment and care across a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. Including the investigation of chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, syncope, and fatigue, as well as the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart-rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias) and cardiovascular risk factors. He has a particular expertise in non-invasive imaging, including echocardiography (transthoracic and transoesophageal), stress echocardiographic imaging, and CT cardiac imaging.

His extensive clinical experience is complemented by a strong background in cardiovascular research. Dr Harmer’s research has explored atherosclerosis, arterial endothelial function, vascular biology, inflammation, and the processes that contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed International medical journals and participated in multiple collaborative research projects and clinical trials examining coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease and cardiovascular risk.

He has held various teaching, research, and training positions at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, Western Sydney University, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital, Blacktown Hospital, the George Institute for Global Health, and the Kolling Institute.

His published work includes research into why some patients develop coronary atherosclerosis and experience heart attacks despite having none of the conventional modifiable risk factors generally associated with cardiovascular disease.

This area of research highlights the complexity of heart disease and the importance of looking beyond traditional risk factors alone. It supports a more individualised approach to cardiovascular assessment: one that considers each patient’s symptoms, medical history, family history and broader health status, rather than relying solely on standard measures of risk. His years of clinical experience and collaborative research, equips him to provide expert care to patients with multiple, complex health conditions.

At CARDIA, Dr Harmer brings extensive clinical experience, thoughtful medical judgement and a strong understanding of the science underlying cardiovascular disease. His approach is careful, considered and grounded in evidence-based medicine.

He understands that cardiac symptoms and diagnoses can be unsettling, and that patients often arrive with important questions and genuine concerns about what their symptoms may mean. Dr Harmer takes the time to listen carefully, investigate thoroughly and explain his findings in clear, accessible language.

He believes that patients should understand their condition and feel involved in decisions about their care. Where ongoing treatment or monitoring is required, he works collaboratively with each patient, their general practitioner and other specialists, to provide coordinated and individually tailored care. Dr Harmer’s approach aligns closely with CARDIA’s philosophy: combining high-quality specialist medicine with warmth, clarity and genuine respect for every patient. His focus is not only on identifying and treating cardiovascular disease, but also on helping patients better understand their heart health and make informed decisions for the future to positively impact their overall well-being.
